Sea Kings scrapped

The giant yellow helicopters known as Sea Kings that have supported Northumberland for many many years have been scrapped by the government. Now the nearest Search and Rescue teams will be hundreds of miles away making response times longer.

The Sea Kings have a special place in my heart as my dad was in the 202 Squadron based at RAF Boulmer and I have very fond memories of visiting the base and dad at work, attending family fun days and seeing the giant yellow helicopters hangers. I remember fly pasts at our school fairs with dad and the crew opening the doors above and waving at me and my friends below. Special times.

It’s a sad day for Northumberland, I pay my upmost respect to the 202 Squadron for the many years of rescuing those who needed them and being a fantastic part of our community.
