Scott works with partners on Dementia strategy for Northumberland

Partners across the county have signed up to a dementia strategy that aims to support people with the condition, as well as their families and communities.

It has been developed by the NHS Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group and Northumberland County Council, working with health and social care providers.

Resources are being re-focussed to help prevent dementia by encouraging healthy lifestyles and awareness of risk, helping people to seek a timely diagnosis, and ensuring high quality support for people with dementia and those who care for them.

Dementia awareness training is being provided for transport operators and housing providers so that they can be in a better position to offer support.

Northumberland Health and Wellbeing Board Chairman Scott Dickinson said: “We want support to be consistent throughout the country, for communities to become dementia-friendly, and to help those living with dementia to live as well as they can in their local community, which is familiar to them.”
