David Cameron said we are all in this together, but local households are getting a raw deal.
New figures reveal the unfairness of the Tory-led Government’s funding cuts to our area more clearly than ever.
Between 2010/11 and 2015/16 Northumberland County Council will face a reduction of £310.47 in spending power per household, while councils in some of the wealthiest areas in the country – like Surrey Heath and Wokingham – will actually see an increase in their spending power per household over this period.
Local Labour Parliamentary Candidate, Scott Dickinson, said:
“David Cameron is living in a world of his own. These shocking figures show that he stands up for the wrong people and isn’t on the side of the residents of Northumberland.
“A Labour Government will put fairness back at the heart of local government finance and push resources and power down from Whitehall to communities.”
Notes to editors:
- The Labour Party has pledged that a Labour Government will ensure public money is distributed more fairly and has committed to the biggest devolution of power and resource from Whitehall for a century.
- Labour will also give local authorities longer term funding settlements so that they can better plan ahead and deliver savings, shifting away from high cost reactive approaches towards investment in preventing problems before they occur or get worse.
